Karabo Sibanda of Botswana has taken the world by storm by becoming the first athlete from Africa to win Gold in the men’s 400m since the inception of the Olympic Games. His win is also the first Gold Medal for Botswana in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
The 18-year-old sensational runner was named Botswana’s Sportsperson of the year at the recent 2016 BNSC awards. Karabo who landed into athletics by accident almost two years ago has now added his name to the records
“It’s an exciting moment for me and my country” he told reporters. “I promised my mother I was going to cause a major upset this summer and nothing would stop me from the ultimate. I dedicate this medal to all the good people of my country” he concluded.
